The coastal village of Hopkins,

located just eight miles south of Dangriga and four miles off the Southern Highway,

Is a quaint little fishing village with a population of about 1,500 villagers living within a five-mile spread. The village offers breath-taking views of the popular Maya Mountain Range which is home to the Cockscomb Basin and houses the world’s only Jaguar Preserve. With the tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea at its side, it’s the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure in the heart of Belize.

The residents of Hopkins are as friendly and hospitable as all others that call this beautiful country “home”. Many make a living as their forefathers did, fishing and selling their catch to locals and tourists alike. Like many other Belizeans, many Hopkins natives have branched out into the growing tourism industry seeking employment with local resorts.

Though there are many vibrant events hosted in Hopkins, the village comes alive annually celebrating Garifuna Settlement Day on November 19th and Hopkins day, its own national holiday, celebrated in the month of July.
